First of all let me start by saying that this is not an attempt to "steal" Ballhawks away from the original Ballhawk League. As with minor league sports there is enough room for 2 leagues.

Eriks league concetrates on every ball you get no matter how you get it. The Professional Ballhawk League will base itself more on catching and chasing down balls than asking for them or using a device to get them. The PBL will use a point system, will have awards and even jerseys for the participants to wear if they choose to get one!

It will simply be a lot of fun! I encourage Ballhawks of all ages to sign up for BOTH Ballhawk Leagues next season. It will be fun to see how each league works itself out? Will the person with the most balls still win both leagues? Who knows!!

The following is from the 2010 Professional Ballhawk League MLBlog at http://ballhawkleague.mlblogs.com

If you are someone that takes a glove to a baseball game hoping to catch a baseball then you are eligible to play in the 2010 Professional Ballhawk League. There will be 2 divisions in the PBL. You will have the Veteran division that will consist of Veteran Ballhawks that have caught over 100 baseballs at Major League games and at least 1 game home run, foul ball or 3rd out ball caught. Then you will have the FAN Division which will consist of everyone else!

All participants must have a MyGameBalls.com profile to keep track of their 2010 Ballhawking Stats along with a MLBlog where there will write about each game that they attend and Ballhawk at

There will be awards for each division at the end of the season including Veteran and Rookie of the Year awards and the MVB (Most Valuable Ballhawk) aka Ballhawk of the Year!

To sign up please send an email to commissioner@ballhawkleague.com

Knowing that this was likely the last game that we were going to see in Anaheim actually made the afternoon more fun. Rob, TC and a few other regulars were out in right field for out final BP of the season. We all had a good time running after baseballs. Every time a ball went into the corner where I usually stand I would count it and tell everyone I just got another one!

It was all in good fun! At one point Rob said that he wasn't going home empty handed. In fact if he had to he was going to rush the Angels locker room and steal a ball if he had to.

Ok so I only ended up with 1 baseball and I don't even know who hit it but the last day of the season is always fun! With the 1 ball today I end the season with 91 balls caught.

The great thing is that early next season I will be hitting a few different milestones. I will talk more about those later. Right now I have to get ready for another exciting day at work!

I gave up on the Double Duty post and I apologize on it taking so long to get entries up but it has been a crazy 3 weeks around here. With work and then both LA teams in the Playoffs, at least until a day or so ago, it has been NUTZ!

So here is my post for NLCS Game 1 ......... I did grab 4 balls on this day and the story on the balls is a little father down.

I took a new camera along with me to the game and have some great shots!

THIS IS NOT A SHOT OFF OF TV - It is from my new Digital Video Cam - It also takes stills!

This was the view from my seats - just to the right of the centerfield cameras!

BP - I got my first ball of the day which was a toss up from the Dodgers James MacDonald. He actually threw it AT 2 girls who did not move one inch to try to catch it. The ball hit hte stairs and rolled in my direction in the opening between the stands and the wall. I hopped the railing and grabbed the ball.

My 2nd ball of the day was a long fly ball hit by Jayson Werth. He hit it right to the staircase that I was standing on. I had to outreach a guy to my right but that was no problem and I had Ball #2!

My 3rd ball of the day was scarey! If you have ever been to Dodger stadium you know that in left field there is a gap between the seats and the wall. Someone on the Phillies was launching balls one after another towards us in left field. As I was coming up the stairs from chasing one ball another was on its way near me. I ran down the stairs thinking it probably would not clear the fence. I stuck out my glove but I still wasn't sure it would miss the supports of the scoreboard or the railing below. My glove hand was extended and I turned my head and closed my eyes. I was afraid I was going to get hit if it ricocheted off of something. A few seconds later I heard and felt it hit my glove. I snapped my glove back, let out a big WOOOOOOOO! and I had my 3rd ball of the day!

My fourth ball of the Day was a toss up from Phillies star Jimmy Rollins!

4 balls definitely made this a great day!

Here are a couple more photos from my new camera from NLCS game 1! If I can convert it I will have a couple of videos up as well including the pitch that struck out Howard but wasn't called!

The freaking Dodgers stuck their hand into a pile of CRAP and pulled out a ROLEX!!

Then after leaving the Dodger game, yes I stayed for the entire game, I ended up in Anaheim just before the start of the 5th inning!

Ok since I did not have a camera with me at all on the 8th I don't have any pictures for this post and since it has been 10 days since I went to these games and I did not get any baseballs at either park I have given up on writing this entry. Sorry!

It was fun however watching a miraculous win and then seeing the Angels beat the Red Sox.

3 Playoff games in 2 days and 3 WINS!!

I headed over to the train station in Fullerton to catch an Amtrak train. I caught the train and I was off on what would turn out to be a 2 day baseball extravaganza!

Here are 3 photos, one from the train of the Stadium as you pull into the station, the Hollywood sign from the top deck along with a shot of the skyline of LA. It's a really cool view from up there!

When I got to the stadium I headed up to the top deck to hang out. About 5 minutes after I got up there I got chased out by the usher in the wheelchair. Most of the other ushers will let you hang out until about 10 minutes before the gates open but this lady makes people leave a lot earlier. The good thing, the gates were going to open at 4:10 which was 2 1/2 hours before the game.

My ticket for tongiht was out in the ALL YOU CAN EAT Right Field Pavilion. The gates opened and it was time to head inside. I was the first person in and did not find any baseballs laying around. During the Dodgers portion of BP the only ball hit into the stands was a shot by Andre Eithier. It was about 6 rows over my head and to my right. I tried to chase it down but it rolled right to a guys feet. That was it for Dodgers BP and then the Cardinals were just as bad. After talking to a friend in the past couple of days I found out the Cards actually hit 3 balls into the stands. Obviously none were near me and what was worse they only tossed up a handful of balls as well. On the good side of that in the first 5 minutes of Cardinals BP I got Adam Wainwright to toss me a ball. That would be it for me ......... 1 lousy ball!

It was cool to see the Dodgers win an exciting game (if you're a Dodger fan). My camera batteries were dying. I got home around Midnight and tomorrow is my DOUBLE DUTY DAY ..... I will be at both the NLDS Game 2 and ALDS game 1!

For some reason the Angels felt that it was not necessary to take BP today ..............

It's now over a week later, I can't get the damn videos to reformat so they just won't get posted. Oh well, I will just leave this as a very short post. It wasn't that exciting anyway.

I did manage to grab one ball that was tossed up after the game behind the Rangers dugout. After the game the Angels held their postseason rally with the skydivers (video I wanted to post) and some of the players in drag and costumes for their initial rookie roadtrip.

I will still try to get that stuff up soon!

So it was the day after the Angels clinched the Western division for the 3rd straight season. When the gates opened there were a few of us that were surprised to see the Angels on the field for BP. Well ok, they were on the field that is however it didn't seem they really wanted to be out there. BP was B-O-R-I-N-G!!

The Angels hit just one ball up to the seats and it was a first row shot. ONE FREAKING BALL HIT INTO THE SEATS BY THE ANGELS!! So now it was time for the Rangers to take the field.

Let me start this off with this note, JOSH HAMILTON did not hit during BP. That set the tone for all of BP. I sat down for quite a bit of BP because it was evident that there would be no balls sailing into the stands. It was a bit chilly, the was a slight wind but there still should be more than 2 balls hit into the right field seats by the Rangers.

YES the Rangers only hit 2 balls into the stands and the Angels only hit 1 for a grand total of 3 BP homers! What a boring ****** night out in the right field pavilion during BP! I ended up getting my ball as a toss up from an usher in left field - not the way I want to get a ball but it counts anyway!

The game itself was just as boring! Bobby Abreu hit a home run in the first inning which was the highlight of the game. Around the 4th inning the Angels became the Salt Lake Bees and managed to hold on 5-2. The entire team on the field was made up of minor league call ups!

Oh well now we can only hope that on Thursday they take batting practice! The game time is 3:05 and the gates should open at 1 ............. I guess we will see!

I will have the camera with me on Thursday since after the game the Angels have their Post Season Rally!

Saturday night was pretty uneventful during BP however in the game it was a different story. How do you go from up 9-2 to down 15-10 and lose?

It will be a short postseason if they keep this up!

I will write more about this night including a looooooong rant on the JACKASS CSC SECURITY GUARD in the visitors dugout and what he did towards the end of the game.

Ok ........... so during BP it was pretty quiet .......... I got one ball that ricocheted off about 3 different people and the seats. That would be the one and only ball that I got during the entire night.

So lets go on and talk about this CSC <strike>Security Guard</strike> ******* in the picture below:

In the 8th inning I made my way down behind the visitors dugout. A fellow Ballhawk was down there and there were a few empty seats plus the usher is a really cool guy.

In between innings a ball was tossed up over the dugout. No one moved for it. I was at least 5 rows back and didn't run after it because I thought for sure someone would grab it quickly. After about 10 seconds a guy laid across the top of the dugout to grab it. It wasn't like he walked across the dugout or pushed someone out of the way diving across the dugout. He just laid across it to grab the ball.

This ********* pictured to the left then took his job Wayyyyyyyyyyyyy to far. He acted like a secret service agent calling all of his pals because he was to much of a bitch to just ask the guy not to do it again. Instead 2 other CSC security guards came down and started talking to the guy.

The fans all around were yelling at the security guard on the field to get his dumb *** back in the dugout. After talking to the guy for a couple of minutes and him saying he was not going to leave they decided to retreat and the case was closed ...... or was it????

Nope they came back with reinforcements, you would have thought that this guy just tried to kill someone. They were rude and not only told the guy, WHO HAD A TICKET FOR THE SEAT, and his friends also had to leave. Worse than that THEY TOOK THE BALL from him.

I had a thought for a minute to give him the ball that I had gotten earlier however there is a bit of politics there. I don't want to show up the ***** and him be a bigger ****** to me in the future. Yes if you look back in my blog you will see another post about this idiot security guy.

Ok so why I am so heated over this because this is the same usher that pinned a 13 or 14 year old kid against the wall after he ACCIDENTLY fell over the wall during batting practice.

YES 100% real, this kid was going after a ball that was rolling along the warning track, he leaned over to far and fell onto the warning track. This ****** ran over, grabbed the kid and pinned him against the wall. I was not down there to hear what was said but from other accounts he was an A-hole about it.

You probably make about $10 an hour and you have to realize that YOU ARE NOT A COP you are a freakin security guard........if you hate people that much that you have to be an A'HOLE every time you come in contact with the fans then get the F out!! The Angels are a classy organization and don't need some DICK like you ruining the fans experience!!

Rant over .................. now onto Tuesday nights Rangers / Angels game that was even more boring that tonights A's / Angels game!

Ooooh it's so much more interesting with the *** than what I actually say ;-)

SIDE NOTE: CSC signs a $493 Million Dollar contract with TSA to provide security at the Nations Aiports .......... now maybe he can throw an old lady against a wall in an airport too!

This won't be a long post but Tuesday night was a lot of fun!

I got to the ballpark around 1:15 in the afternoon. Instead of going after Yankee autographs right away I decided to go and get some Angels autographs. It was pretty uneventful until about 3:15 when Torii Hunter drove up. Let me just say that Torii is the class of the organization and possible the entire league. Every time I have been out there that Torii signs he always has a smile on his face, he is always fun and talkative with whoever is out there and you can just tell he loves this game! THANK YOU TORII for being such an awesome ballplayer but more important being an excellent role model for the kids that watch you play!

Here is the ball that I had Torii sign:

About 15 minutes later Bobby Abreu stopped by and signed a few autographs for the 4 or 5 of us that were waiting by the Angels players parking lot. I had Bobby sign an old game ball from earlier in the season.

Then it was around to the front of the stadium once all of the Angels players were in. It was now around 4pm and basically all of the players were in the park. We did see the final Yankees team bus go around back a little after 4. Then about 4:20 (yes I said it) MR. OCTOBER pulled up. As he walked up to the main gate he signed some autographs while telling everyone to shut up. Partially because he was talking on his hands free device for his cell phone. It was actually more likely because he didn't want to hear the guys saying "Please Mr. Jackson it's for my kid" YEAH RIGHT it is for you and will be on Ebay next week!

Anyway, here is the ball that I got signed by R-E-G-G-I-E!

That was it for autographs before the game it was now time to head into the stadium. The usual cast of characters was in line Rob, Chris, myself and a few other regular Ballhawks.

I went into the right field corner for the end of Angels BP and there was only 2 balls hit down there. One took a hop off a seat and away from me and the other wasn't close. I headed up to the right field pavilion for the Yankees. Yankees BP is always tough because of the amount of people out there. However I know that I will get a ball regardless.

I just had to be patient and find the right spot. I stood along the wall in a spot where I have seen many balls hit by the Yanks in the past. While I was standing in this spot I watched a shot hit down the right field line. I believe it might have been Robinson Cano that hit it.

Anyway, this shot went into the first row of the stands. There wwas a Yankees player signing autographs nearby and most of the fans were not paying attention. ALWAYS PAY ATTENTION TO BP!

The ball nailed a fan in the head just above the eye opening a big gash and blood everywhere! The fan fell to the ground and players, fans and ushers began waving arms and hats to get help there. It took the EMTs on site almost 10 minutes to get there. In the meantime the Yankees players (yes the hated Yankees) brought over towels and ice to the people attending to the fan while they waited for EMT's.

About 25 minutes after getting hit the fan was taken out on a stretcher. I belive at least that part of it might be on You Tube somewhere. It was definitely a scarey sight since we heard the ball hitting the fan about 120 feet away from it!

A little later in the group Nick Swisher stepped in and hit a ball right at me. I had to stretch out as far as I could to get in front of the other 6 or 7 gloves and hands but I did and it was in my glove! This would be BALL#1 and the only ball I would snag that night!

The game was exciting with the Angels making a comeback from a 5-0 deficit and then losing 6-5 in the end. After the game I hung around to get some more autographs. I got a handful of Yankees on a ball that already had Mark Gardener and Robinson Cano. The players I got tonight were Ian Kennedy, Shelley Duncan Jose Molina and a couple others.

So it was a good night for autographs and as long as I get one ball I am happy!

It is likely that I will be in Anaheim on Tuesday for the Yankees vs. Angels. I don't really care much about going to games when the Yankees are in town however in the past 2 years I still haven't had the luck of chasing down a commemorative Yankees ball. It gets frustrating because of all the bandwagoners that come out when the Yankees and Red Sox come to town.

Do I mind the competition? Not at all because I know I will still get my 2 or 3 baseballs regardless of the size of the crowd. The down side is that you have to line up at the gate 45 minutes to an hour early to get in the park. Well that is unless you know ways around that ;-)

After Tuesday's game it is likely that I will hit Saturdays game vs Oakland as well. I am also going to bring some info on Baseballs 4 MADD for Kurt Suzuki. Saturday is also a likely clincher for the Angels as well.

After that it looks like I will make 2 games next week likely Tuesday and Thursday since Thursday is the last regular season game in Anaheim. That will be it until the playoffs the following week. I already have Dodger tickets for all of the games and will hopefully get Angel tickets as well early next week.

It was 11 years ago today that I caught Sammy Sosa's 61st home run on Waveland Avenue outside of Wrigley Field. As I sit here today I can remember it as if it just happened.

The night before I was at a party about 8 blocks away from Wrigley Field. I had $8 in my pocket and really had no intentions of going to the game. I drove down Kenmore towards Waveland and saw legendary Ballhawk MOE MULLINS standing by his van. I talked to Moe and he asked if I was going to hang around. I told him that it was unlikely and he said that I should hang out.

In the first inning of the game Sosa hit a long fly ball down the left field line and onto Waveland Avenue. There was a trail of at least 100-150 people that ran after the ball. I can remember thinking to myself that the only chance i had at getting a Sosa HR was if it rolled right to my feet. (remember that)

A side story to all of this takes place on the Mississippi Belle II Riverboat Casino in Clinton, Iowa. Knowing that I was a huge baseball fan and that I had caught numerous baseballs at MLB games the staff there would always ask me what I thought a Sosa HR would be worth. My response, "I'll let you know when I catch one!" That was my response each and every time they would ask. (remember this too)

Onto the 5th inning of the game .......

Sosa steps up to bat, I am now leaning against Moe's van which was parked near the firehydrant on the corner of Waveland and Kenmore. I am watching a TV that Moe had set up inside. Sosa takes a big swing and immediately you heard the crowd roar. I turned to my right and looked up and saw the ball in flight. I headed between two cars hoping that I had a chance.

There were two guys coming up the street as I came between the cars. I saw the ball hit about 5 feet from the building, hit off of one of those guys shins and then, IT ROLLED RIGHT TO ME!! I had just become one of only 3 people (at that time) to have caught someones 61st HR in a season.

Immediately after I made the grab with my glove I cradled it like a football. A few of the regular Ballhawks and Ballhawk groupies circled me and got me into Moe's van. I can remember Jeff Idleson from the Hall of Fame coming to look at the ball and taking a few notes on it. I was also interviewed by a couple of reporters as well.

The funniest part of the whole scene was the long line of people that wanted to shake my hand, offer me free dinner at their restaurant or just wanted an autograph. That went on for almost 40 minutes.

At one point someone from WGN came over and wanted to take me into the ballpark to be interviewed on the telecast. When we got up to the press box Bill Murray was leaving and said to me, "Give it back to him (Sosa)". I then came across a guy that asked if I was the one that caught the ball. I told him yes and he asked if he could check it out. Feeling safe since I was in the press box I decided to let go of the ball. A few minutes later a guy came out of another room and the guy I gave the ball to said, "Hey Chris, check this out, this is the Sosa HR ball!" He tossed it to "Chris" and he checked it out.

It turns out that it was actor Chris O'Donnell. As he was walking out after singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame I asked him to sign my hat. I thanked him for the autograph and he walked away. Just as I was about to walk into the TV booth with Steve Stone and Chip Caray I heard Chris' voice, "Hey John, can you sign my hat!" Of course I signed it!

By the time the 9th inning rolled around I was standing by the fence of the Budweiser house just hoping that Sosa would not hit .......... SWING AND A LONG ONE . ...... so much for that .... #62 flew out of the park, into Moes hands and then he got mauled for the ball.

I had actually talked to a collector on the pay phone by the firehouse a little after getting #61 and he offered me $10,000 for the ball. Now there was another ball out there, what would I get for mine? When I got to the collectors office later that night I heard a voice mail from the guy that ended up with 62. They might be buying both balls and I knew I wasn't getting $10,000.

I could have given the ball back to Sosa but I had been kind of screwed over by a Cubs minor league team (that I worked for) the season before and decided giving it back was not an option. Not to mention that I was recently divorced and the extra cash would help out. So they offered me $7,500 and it would obviously help me out.

To make a looooong story short I got lucky that day, I was in the right place at the right time and had the baseball gods looking down on me.

Now let's go back to the part about the Mississippi Belle II Riverboat in Clinton, Iowa. About a week later my mom and I went to the boat. As we walked onto the boat I heard someone radio ahead saying, "He's here!" We walked into the 2nd deck doors and a few of the dealers that new me gave me a standing ovation!

I was a surreal moment, it was as if a celebrity walked onto the boat. Anyway, they all asked me, "So what was it worth?" I told them $7,500 and I got to share the story about my day with them!

The Sosa HR was and still is one of my greatest catches. Regardless of did he or did he not do steroids I don't really care. He hit 66 HR's that season to Big Macs 70. It was a great summer for baseball and I was glad to be a part of it!

There were other things that happened that day and much more that I could have added to the story but I cut it down a bit for the sake of my readers. The complete story is in my BOOK titled "TAKING HOME A PIECE OF THE GAME" -- Google it or look it up at AMAZON.COM - only $4.95 + shipping.

I got to the stadium around 4:30 and it was not surprising to see absolutely no one around. School is back in session and that is always a good thing for us Ballhawks!

Around 4:45 most of the regulars showed up at the gate. Chris, Matt, Rob and a few more of the cast of characters that chase baseballs in Anaheim. I had the first spot on the far side of the gate and as I was standing there a guy walks up and says, "Ya ready to race?" It was a guy that every day tries to get my regular spot in the right field corner. Today I didn't care so I told him that it was all his.

I got down to the corner and he had my spot so I just went to the last gate opening in the right field corner. It turned out to be a very good move!

The day started off with a ball from an unknown lefty hitting one down the line. I leaned over the wall to make the easy grab ..... BALL #1

Into the cage stepped Gary Matthews Jr. who isn't known for hitting many balls into the seats during BP,, not even foul balls! Matthews ripped one down the line and again I leaned over the wall and made the grab ...... BALL #2

Now it was time for the Mariners to take their hacks in the cage. The Mariners are one of the favorite teams of the Ballhawks in Anaheim because we all know that there will be plenty of balls into the seats.

Ichiro as usual sent balls flying into the stands in right field. He pulled a few down the line and put many into the bleachers.

One of the balls that he hit down the line ricocheted off the wall and was headed right towards me. I leaned over the wall to grab the slow rolling ball and as I was picking the ball up I heard a girl near my yelling "LOOK OUT!!"

To my surprise a ball bounces off of the wall about 6 inches from my face! It was probably a good thing however that I did not see it because I would have missed the slow roller and might have missed the one that almost picked me off as well! Anyway, I did grab the slow roller for BALL #3

It was pretty uneventful after Ichiro and the first group hit. There were only a few balls hit near me in the next 20 minutes and those were two fly balls hit right at a Mariners fan that completely blew one and dropped the other. In the last group you had 3 lefties and 1 right handed hitter.

The lefties sent at least a dozen balls into the pavilion seats and a few down the line. Near the end of BP Langerhans hit a ball on the fly right towards me. I had about a dozen kids to my right that were not even paying attention. I stood up on the ledge of the gate opening and made the grab. I also probably saved a kid or two from reconstructive surgery had the ball hit them!

That was BALL #4 and the last ball of the day for me! The game itself was good but there were no home runs hit to the corner. That is becoming typical this season. In the games I have attended there has been 1 home run to the right field corner and I wasn't sitting there when it went out. In the games that I haven't been to there has been about 16 HR's into the right field corner!! It will happen before seasons end though ..... I will get 1 more GAME HR!!

Have a great weekend! I should be at Saturdays day game so watch for me on FOX!!

FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER ...... @mlballhawk
