DOUBLE DUTY – 10/8/2009 – Dodger Stadium 1st then off to Anaheim
WHAT A DAY FOR BASEBALL IN LA!!!
I am going to put together seperate posts for each game! There is a lot to write about unfortuantely it doesn’t involve me getting any baseballs. BUT WHO CARES!
The freaking Dodgers stuck their hand into a pile of CRAP and pulled out a ROLEX!!
Then after leaving the Dodger game, yes I stayed for the entire game, I ended up in Anaheim just before the start of the 5th inning!
Ok since I did not have a camera with me at all on the 8th I don’t have any pictures for this post and since it has been 10 days since I went to these games and I did not get any baseballs at either park I have given up on writing this entry. Sorry!
It was fun however watching a miraculous win and then seeing the Angels beat the Red Sox.
3 Playoff games in 2 days and 3 WINS!!
NLDS Game 1 – Cardinals vs. Dodgers – 10/7/09 – 1 ball
So at the last minute I decided I was going out to game 1 of the NLDS at Dodger Stadium. I headed over to the train station in Fullerton to catch an Amtrak train. I caught the train and I was off on what would turn out to be a 2 day baseball extravaganza!
Here are 3 photos, one from the train of the Stadium as you pull into the station, the Hollywood sign from the top deck along with a shot of the skyline of LA. It’s a really cool view from up there!
When I got to the stadium I headed up to the top deck to hang out. About 5 minutes after I got up there I got chased out by the usher in the wheelchair. Most of the other ushers will let you hang out until about 10 minutes before the gates open but this lady makes people leave a lot earlier. The good thing, the gates were going to open at 4:10 which was 2 1/2 hours before the game.

My ticket for tongiht was out in the ALL YOU CAN EAT Right Field Pavilion. The gates opened and it was time to head inside. I was the first person in and did not find any baseballs laying around. During the Dodgers portion of BP the only ball hit into the stands was a shot by Andre Eithier. It was about 6 rows over my head and to my right. I tried to chase it down but it rolled right to a guys feet. That was it for Dodgers BP and then the Cardinals were just as bad. After talking to a friend in the past couple of days I found out the Cards actually hit 3 balls into the stands. Obviously none were near me and what was worse they only tossed up a handful of balls as well. On the good side of that in the first 5 minutes of Cardinals BP I got Adam Wainwright to toss me a ball. That would be it for me ……… 1 lousy ball!
It was cool to see the Dodgers win an exciting game (if you’re a Dodger fan). My camera batteries were dying. I got home around Midnight and tomorrow is my DOUBLE DUTY DAY ….. I will be at both the NLDS Game 2 and ALDS game 1!
Fellow MLBlogger Zack Hample on the Tonight Show and even I made it on TV
On Wednesday I went to the Tonight show to see fellow Ballhawk and MLBloggers Zack Hample. I have talked to Zack via email and MLBlogs for 5 or 6 years now. We talked on the phone earlier this week and finally we were both going to be in the same place at the same time to meet.
We got there in plenty of time to use the tickets I had got off of TVTIX.com . Zack was going to try to put us on the studio list however they had told him only two guests and we felt that we would get in with our tickets anyway which we did. Here is a picture of the line to get into the Tonight show to see Zack Hample. They all were there for Zack weren’t they? Sorry about the quality of these 2 photos as they were taken with my cell phone.
Once we in the studio we had to turn off all of our phones, cameras etc. John Melendez (Stuttering John from the Howard Stern Show) came out and warmed up the audience by giving away some stuff and Jay Leno came out and told us to make sure we laughed during the monologue.
In the second segment of the show after the monologue John Melendez came out to host “What the Audience Wants To Know”. All of the questions obviously were set ups for jokes but it was pretty funny. All of the people they had asking the questions were right in front of me which gave me the opportunity to get on TV. I figured that some people might notice if me if I was holding a baseball. As you can see in this photo there I am behind Melendez holding a baseball on my lap. I couldn’t make it to obvious by holding it up or I might have gotten in trouble with the production crew. So I just held it on my leg where you could easily see it.
No I really am not bald although in this picture it might look that way. After this segment Dana Carvey came out. He was on for the next two segments and most likely ran a little long causing the shortening of Zacks segment. Dana Carvey was hilarious doing impressions of everything going on in politics right now and he even chimed in during Zacks segment making fun of the people at Shea that had evidently thrown Zack out a few times over the years.
Finally it was Zack’s turn and I think Zack did a pretty good job. After the show he told me that he was not nervous at all. He said that even Dana Carvey said something to him about him not being nervous. I told Zack that he is a seasoned pro and it just comes natural to a Ballhawk.
It was definitely cool seeing a fellow Ballhawk get his 15 minutes of fame on the BIG STAGE!
After the show we met up with Zack across the street at of all places a Shell station. We talked, shared stories and took a few photos as well. I even haded Zack a small stack of Tonight Show tickets which he didn’t even know were available. I then had him sign a few of them and he OK’ed putting one or two on Ebay. So stay tuned for that …….. most likely it will be a Major League Baseball along with a Tonight Show Ticket signed by the WORLDS GREATEST BASEBALL FAN ZACK HAMPLE! I guess I should have worn a hat and tucked my shirt in! This picture was taken by Zack’s girlfriend Jona. They could have photoshoped it!
There were some funny moments with the audience gasping at the number of baseballs that he has caught. I did hear a few people laugh and say what a dork etc. but all of us that chase baseballs know that there has to be some DORK in us to continue Ballhawking!
The funniest thing was the fact that Jay said he holds the WORLD RECORD for catching baseballs. When Zack came out after the show he just laughed and told me that even he told them that wasn’t really true but they said that they were just going with it. Who really cares anyway, those of us that are “Ballhawks” are just glad to see our hobby getting recognized!
Great Job Zack and as you said we definitely need to do something together whether it is a documentry , book or even a reality show!
On my way to the Tonight Show to see Zack Hample!!
Hey everyone I am leaving right now to head over to the Tonight Show. It will be really cool to not only see the show but to finally meet Zack!
If anyone tapes the show let me know. I would love to get a copy!
I will let you all know what goes on when I get back!

Frequently Ask Questions
$399 – Why so much??
Actually that is very reasonable! With the average time that we will spend together around 5-6 hours plus my time to get to the ballpark and the cost of gas I feel that is more than a fair price. Throw in the fact that I am a Professional Ballhawk, you WILL get a baseball,
possibly some autographs and you will have a great time at the game and I think you are getting a very good deal.
How Do I pay for my day at the Ballpark with you?
YOU must make a $100 NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT via GOOGLE CHECKOUT (free to sign up for)
Can you Guarantee that I will get a baseball?
Absolutely! As long as we meet before the gates to the ballpark open and there is in fact batting practice taking place you will have a
$100 guarantee! I can not guarantee getting a baseball without batting practice, sorry! So basically if you or your guest(s)
do not catch a baseball and for some reason I do not catch a baseball to give to you then I will give you a $100 refund!
**It has not happened yet**
What if we don’t have tickets?
During the NLCS I will provide tickets from your “Ballhawking 101″ fee.
A $100 NON REFUNDABLE deposit must be paid in advance. This is simply to protect me from a cancellation.
What would you charge to go to a game in another city?
It would be the same fees for a game in Anaheim or LA however I do require you to cover my transportation to and from your city of choice
as well as lodging for the time that I am there. You will also need to provide tickets for the games!
If you have any questions or to schedule your Day at the Ballpark with John please email mlballhawk@gmail.com
